Bladeriders at the Volvo Ocean Race stopover

A reminder that Bladeriders will be racing at the V & A as part of the VOR stopover. Rohan Veal will be around to chat and answer questions, and you’ll be able see what the boats are actually able to do.

Hope to see you there

Details of the racing are below:

  • There will be 5 boats, 3 from RSA and 2 from the Puma team and all will be Bladeriders
  • Dates are 8 – 9 November
  • We intend to race between 10h00 and 13h00, weather permitting
  • Bladeriders need about 7 knots of wind to fly (foil) and we start running out of courage in 20 knots+
  • Each race should last about 20 minutes so, including starting procedures and breaks in between, we should complete 3 – 4 races each day
  • Racing will happen just outside the harbour breakwater and we will try and ensure the sailing is very visible to the public that walk onto the pier

Event overview

  • The regatta is intended to support the VOR and demonstrate the hydrofoiling Bladerider to the public

It will have a number of firsts:

  • The first Bladerider Moth regatta in Africa
  • The first regatta in Africa sailed on hydrofoil sailboats
  • The first Bladerider regatta sailed as a support act to the VOR
  • The 3 South African boats will be sailed by local sailors and all are multiple championship winners
  • The Puma boats will be sailed by Martin Gravare and Rohan Veal
  • Martin represented Sweden at the Olympics while Rohan is the 2005 and 2007 Moth World Champion

Please forward this on to anyone you think may be interested.

Regards

Roy Dunster

I want a Bladerider. Do you sell these in South-Africa?
