Extra & 420 Nationals
The Regatta started with everyone rushing to the club after school and work on Friday afternoon to make the start on time. With a few general recalls and OCSs the regatta started in a moderate NW wind.
Saturday was a breeze with between 15 and 20 knots! Many people got stuck in the mud and there were a few broken rudders and spinnaker poles. The last race of the day on Saturday was anything and everything between 8 to 18 knots with 45° shifts. A few capsizes resulted after this race.
Sunday was called off because of too much wind with Trax measuring gusts of 35 knots. The final decision was made at about 1 o’clock to end the regatta without any racing for the day. A few brave boats went out, but included a few accidents!
Brevan Thompson and Callum Kilpin won the 420 fleet with Asinathi Jim and Ashwyn Daniels tie for second with Edu Lehtinen and Josh Rubenstein. Rosey Finn and Heidi Burger were first girls placed in 6th position. In the Extra fleet, Stephen Du Toit won the regatta with Mark Sadler in second place and David Rae in third place. The first Master was Keith Morris. In all it was a fun regatta with cool prizes and a nice atmosphere.
