MDM Team Racing Round 3

Knights top the log after round 3

The White Knights put their second round loss behind them and repeated their first round form with a solid performance to lift them to the top of the log.  Even though they have one extra round (as have the Dragons) their fifteen points have put them in contention for a top two position on the log and ultimately a place in the final.  Once again it was the students Laser team leading the way and the future students (the Optimists) destroying the Hurricanes 3-0.  Hurricanes team captain Davey James switch to a Laser for the 3rd and final flight saved the Laser’s from a certain 3-0 defeat, however their gamble on moving Davey to the Lasers didn’t pay off as their 420’s lost their 3rd flight to the students.  The win for the Knights 420’s was their first of the season!  In the end the Knights produced an excellent performance defeating the powerful Hurricanes 6-3.

IMG_4516On a day of upsets, in the first match of the day, the Dragons pulled off their first win of the season by beating the Dolphins 5-4 in a closely contested event.  After two flights both teams were locked on 3 points each, but it was the Dragons who could smell victory for the first time and held their nerve to record a great win over last year’s winners and their first ever in the competition.

This Sunday the Knights have one last round to add to their fifteen points and then they will have to wait until 8th November to see if that is enough for a top 2 position as all the other teams would have had their bye by next weekend.  At this stage it looks like 23 points should be enough to secure a spot in the final.  The Knights may be top of the log for now, but the position of strength belongs to the Eagles.  With a round in hand they are only two points behind the Knights and it is these two teams that will battle it out this Sunday.  The Dolphins and Hurricanes separated by two points and also in contention for a top two finish will sail against each other this coming Sunday.

With two rounds to go and eight matches to be sailed, one this Sunday 11th October and the next on 8th November anything can happen.
